I know that it is hard for people invested in a hard East/ West dichotomy to imagine that the icon of Western civilization, the British royal family, has Arab Muslim antecedents (along with a host of other nationalities of course.) It is obvious that a lot of Egyptians, Lebanese and Jordanians have descent from the Christian European Crusaders. This is connected to just pointing out that having ancestors named Hussein is more common among Europeans and Americans than is usually realized. | Queen Elizabeth Muslim Ancestry?? Elizabeth II supposedly descends in part from Muslims who created the Arab Andalusian civilization of Spain. Historians debate whether the queen consort of George III, Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1744-1818), was of African ancestry. Mario de Valdes de Cocom argues that her features were "conspicuously African", and he claims that this German noblewoman can trace back her ancestry to Alfonso III of Portugal and his Moorish lover in the thirteen century. She was also the electress consort of Hanover in the Holy Roman Empire until the promotion of her husband to King of Hanover on 12 October 1814, which made her Queen consort of Hanover.
