DETERMINING VALUE OF COMPUTER
What hardware determine the marketable value of a home computer
system,  in the standard market place, is 1. Processor,  speed and type, as
well as branding or manufacturer, 2. Random Access Memory [RAM]  on
computer at point  of sale, maximum RAM expansion allowable, as well as
    type memory, i.e. DDR1, DDR2, DDR3, etc, 3. Hard Disk Drive storage space .

Other important methods for determining value, of home computer system,
would be Monitor, Video card and Audio card, followed by media type
[cd/dvd burner] keyboard, mouse, speakers and microphone.

     WHEN BUYING YOU SHOULD KNOW
Manufacturers and retailers 'bundle' together components of computer
systems, like tower or desktop, monitor, keyboard and mouse, sometime
along with speakers, to enhance quick sales, but it is important to realize that
each of these components may be purchased separately, though made by
different manufacturers, to realize savings, so one should compare before
buying and always realize that if you already have a component at home,
whether HP, Dell, Gateway or someone else,  then you can use that and do
not have to purchase the entire system.
UNDERSTANDING COMPUTER MEMORY
Modern Computer systems use RAM, what is called DDR
memory, standing for Double Data Rated, and it is available in
three speeds, each progressively faster, DDR, 266Mhz-pc2100,
    333Mhz-pc-2700, 400Mhz-pc-3200.
Stndard DDR became DDR1 when manufacturing of DDR2,  and
DDR3 came along. The latter being even faster.
We will post other size/speed memory shortly

          Glossary of Terms
PROCESSOR The central processing
unit, CPU, or processor is the portion
of a  computer system that carries
out the instructions of a computer
program,  and is the primary ele-
ment carrying  out the functions of
the computer or  other processing
device. It carries out  each instruction
of the program in sequence, to perform
the basic arithmetical, logical, and input/output operations of
the system. The CPU is known as the "brains" of the computer,
since the early 1960s. It is also known as a Microprocessor at
least since the 1970.
RAM  Random-Access
Memory is  computer
data storage in inte-
grated circuits which
allow stored data to
be accessed in any
order with a worst case performance of constant time. Strictly
speaking, modern types of  RAM are therefore not random
access, as data is read  in bursts though the term  RAM continue
to be used.
RAM is often associated with volatile types of memory  or
memory modules, where its stored information is lost if the
power is removed, though  other types of non-volatile
memory are RAM , including most types of ROM and a type of
flash memory called NOR-Flash.
ROM  Read-Only Memory is a type storage used in
computers and other electronic products, which can only be
altered or changed by a professional and is primarily used to
distribute software, firmware or computer programs normally
associated with specific hardware which seldom need  updates
Hard Drive  Hard Drive,
hard disk drive, hard disk or HDD  is a
non-volatile, random access digital data
storage unit, having rotating, rigid, platters, outwardly
similar in 'appearance' to CD/DVD disks,
on a motor-driven spindle inside  a
protective  cover on which data is
magnetically read  from and written to the
platter by read/write heads that float on
a film of air above the platters. It is some
time called the "brain" of the computer
Video Card , A  video
card, video adapter, graphics
accelerator card, display
adapter, or graphics card
is an expansion card which
generates output images to
a display sometime integrated
into the motherboard.
Sound Card A  sound card /audio card is an internal
computer expansion card that facilitates the input and output of
audio signals to and from a computer under control of
computer programs. The term sound card is also applied to
external audio interfaces that use software to generate sound,
as opposed to using hardware inside the PC. It can produce 3-D
audio for games or surround sound playback for DVDs. It can
also capture and record sound from external sources.

What is a computer virus?
A computer virus is a small software program that spreads from one computer to another computer and that interferes with computer
operation. A computer virus may corrupt or delete data on a computer, use an e-mail program to spread the virus to other computers, or
even delete everything on the hard disk.
Computer viruses are most easily spread by attachments in e-mail messages or by instant messaging messages. Therefore, you must
never open an e-mail attachment unless you know who sent the message or unless you are expecting the e-mail attachment. Computer
viruses can be disguised as attachments of funny images, greeting cards, or audio and video files. Computer viruses also spread by using
downloads on the Internet. Computer viruses can be hidden in pirated software or in other files or programs that you may download.

Symptoms that may be the result of ordinary Windows functions
A computer virus infection may cause the following problems:
Note: These problems may also occur because of ordinary Windows functions or problems in Windows that are not caused by a computer
virus.
Windows does not start even though you have not made any system changes or even though you have not installed or removed any
programs.
Windows does not start because certain important system files are missing. Additionally, you receive an error message that lists the
missing files.
The computer sometimes starts as expected. However, at other times, the computer stops responding before the desktop icons and the
taskbar appear.
The computer runs very slowly. Additionally, the computer takes longer than expected to start.
You receive out-of-memory error messages even though the computer has sufficient RAM.
New programs are installed incorrectly.
Windows spontaneously restarts unexpectedly.
Programs that used to run stop responding frequently. Even if you remove and reinstall the programs, the issue continues to occur.
A disk utility such as Scandisk reports multiple serious disk errors.
A partition disappears.
The computer always stops responding when you try to use Microsoft Office products.
You cannot start Windows Task Manager.
Antivirus software indicates that a computer virus is present.

Symptoms of a computer virus

If you suspect or confirm that your computer is infected with a computer virus, obtain the current antivirus software. The following are
some primary indicators that a computer may be infected:
The computer runs slower than usual.
The computer stops responding, or it locks up frequently.
The computer crashes, and then it restarts every few minutes.
The computer restarts on its own. Additionally, the computer does not run as usual.
Applications on the computer do not work correctly.
Disks or disk drives are inaccessible.
You cannot print items correctly.
You see unusual error messages.
You see distorted menus and dialog boxes.
There is a double extension on an attachment that you recently opened, such as a .jpg, .vbs, .gif, or .exe. extension.
An antivirus program is disabled for no reason. Additionally, the antivirus program cannot be restarted.
An antivirus program cannot be installed on the computer, or the antivirus program will not run.
New icons appear on the desktop that you did not put there, or the icons are not associated with any recently installed programs.
Strange sounds or music plays from the speakers unexpectedly.
A program disappears from the computer even though you did not intentionally remove the program.
Note These are common signs of infection. However, these signs may also be caused by hardware or software problems that have nothing
to do with a computer virus. Unless you run the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool, and then you install industry-standard,
up-to-date antivirus software on your computer, you cannot be certain whether a computer is infected with a computer virus or not.

Symptoms of worms and trojan horse viruses in e-mail messages
When a computer virus infects e-mail messages or infects other files on a computer, you may notice the following symptoms:
The infected file may make copies of itself. This behavior may use up all the free space on the hard disk.
A copy of the infected file may be sent to all the addresses in an e-mail address list.
The computer virus may reformat the hard disk. This behavior will delete files and programs.
The computer virus may install hidden programs, such as pirated software. This pirated software may then be distributed and sold from
the computer.
The computer virus may reduce security. This could enable intruders to remotely access the computer or the network.
You receive an e-mail message that has a strange attachment. When you open the attachment, dialog boxes appear, or a sudden
degradation in system performance occurs.
Someone tells you that they have recently received e-mail messages from you that contained attached files that you did not send. The files
that are attached to the e-mail messages have extensions such as .exe, .bat, .scr, and .vbs extensions.

Motherboard is the central printed circuit board  in many modern
computers and holds many of the crucial components of the system,
providing connectors for other peripherals. The motherboard is
sometimes alternatively known
as the main board, system board.
In the modern Desktop computer most of the components displayed here
will be housed
within  the  body of the desktop. In a computer with tower
they will be in the tower, and the same holds true for the
laptop;these
combined are called a computer.
 Auxilliary features such as keyboard,
mouse, monitor, speakers, in combination with the  aforementioned
contents, make up the
computer system, especially when complimented by
a printer.
